AED Community Programme Update: 6 New AEDs Bring Life-Saving Coverage to Segamat

Every AED installed is more than one more device on a wall. It's one more layer of protection for a community — and one more chance for a life to be saved when every second counts.

With the generous backing of local businesses, associations, and community partners, MedikHub is proud to share that we've successfully installed six Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) across schools and community locations in Segamat, Johor — putting fast, life-saving intervention within reach of more people during a sudden cardiac arrest.

Four of the six units are now safeguarding schools and educational institutions — placing defibrillators exactly where children, teachers, and families gather every day.

Why AEDs matter so much

Sudden cardiac arrest strikes without warning, and the clock is unforgiving. For every one minute that defibrillation is delayed, a victim's survival rate falls by roughly 7–10%.

The good news: an AED is purpose-built for the public. Even someone with no medical background can, after basic training, follow the device's clear voice prompts to assist a patient through those critical first minutes. That's why fitting AEDs across schools, community centres, religious venues, and public spaces has become one of the most effective ways to raise a community's overall emergency-response capability.

The golden 4 minutes — everyone can be a life-saver

In a cardiac emergency, the first four minutes are decisive. Act within that window — with CPR and an AED — and survival odds climb dramatically. Wait for an ambulance alone, and that window often closes before help arrives.

That's the heart of this programme: get AEDs into the places people gather, and equip ordinary people to use them. When the community is ready, anyone can become a life-saving hero.
